We've listed some quality resources on the subject of solar
vehicles from a few external websites that we have found to
be interesting and informative. Please come back and visit us

websites for information that is beyond the scope of our hybrid
vehicle site.
Solar-Powered
Vehicles - Department of Energy page outlining
design, cells, battery charging and advantages of solar-powered
vehicles. Includes race information for different vehicle
categories.
Junior
Solar Sprint (JSS) Program - is a classroom-based,
hands-on educational program for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade
students. JSS student teams apply math, science, and creativity
to construct model solar-powered cars and race them in interscholastic
competitions hosted within their schools or within their
states or regions. Hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Winston
Solar Car Team - is one of the leading high school
solar car education programs in the United States. Founded
in 1990, the team has built and raced eight solar cars.
The team participated in three Australian World Solar Challenges,
and is the first U.S. High School to ever complete the race.
The team has earned First Place Classic Division in both
the 2002 and 2004 Dell-Winston Solar Car Challenges.
Solar
Electric Vehicle Team - is a recognized student organization
at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), working
under the auspices of the Edgerton Center. The team draws on
a broad range of technical knowledge encompassing all fields
of engineering and science. Team membership provides an intense
educational experience which teaches practical skills impossible
to communicate in the classroom environment, turning students
into engineers. In addition to providing real-world design and
manufacturing experience, involvement in the team develops project
management and business skills. The team also gives students
the opportunity to work closely with professors and members
of the business community, including those on the board of consultants,
when developing the vehicles.
Formula
Sun Education Foundation - organizes renewable energy
programs including the solar raycing competitions Formula Sun
Grand Prix and Solar BikeRayce USA. FSGP is an international
closed-course rayce for solar cars. There will be two competitions
in 2005. The first event will be at Heartland Park Topeka in
Topeka, KS in May. The second event will be in Texas in July.
Solar BikeRayce is an annual international closed-course solar
bike rayce held in the heartland of America. The objectives
of the event are to stimulate interest in science and technology
and to raise awareness of alternative energy sources.
University
of Missouri-Rolla Solar Car Team - team consists
of many advisors and students from diversified educational
backgrounds. A race crew is formed with about 20 student
members who pass a few certain requirments. They will participate
in the various different races each year, however the race
crews change from year to year.
Solar
Car Racing Competition Heats Up - article by
National Geographic online magazine outlining solar car
racing competitions. Includes information on the races and
requirements for joining.
2005
North American Solar Challenge (NASC2005) - is a
competition to design, build, and race solar-powered cars in
a cross-country event. Teams compete in a 2500 mile rayce from
Austin, Texas to Calgary, Alberta.
